Abby and Chris | Ohana Family Camp, Vermont Wedding | 5.6.17
When I met Chris and Abby last summer I knew right away I was going to really enjoy their wedding, but I never would have imaged I would have as much fun as I actually did. They are not only super laid back and kind, but they are also a ton of fun and know how to keep a party lively (I had some concerns when I looked at the timeline, I’m not going to lie, photographing over two hours of free dancing can go downhill quickly sometimes – but this group did NOT disappoint!).
Though the day started out with serious threats of downpours (the forecast was rain all day and it was definitely coming down when I arrived), we had a great plan for some romantic portraits in the rain by Abby’s favorite tree with boots and umbrellas – thankfully, we never had to carry that plan out. Mother nature gave us a break so that Chris and Abby could have their ceremony outside as planned (though, we were all pretty zen about having to go with the flow – which made a huge difference in any stress there could have been that day as well as the days leading up to it).
Both the ceremony and reception took place at Ohana Family Camp in Fairlee, Vermont at their new barn facility (which is beyond beautiful and perfectly planned out for hosting functions). Delicious food was provided by Barefoot Gourmet and words don’t even begin to describe how amazing the food was – and I eat a lot of wedding food (and this was beyond anything I would ever describe as “wedding food” – it was JUST. SO. GOOD.). All of the amazing florals you see throughout were put together by Chris’ aunt and they were fantastic!
Abby and Chris’ pups Birch and Cortland were on site at the camp, but they were hanging back in a pet friendly cabin, except when Birch snuck out to see what mom was up to.
Chris and Abby decided to have a few words before the ceremony without seeing each other. It started to get a bit emotional when Abby said she wished she could kiss Chris but didn’t want him to see her, so he offered to close his eyes so they could. I think we all got a little choked up there. As much as I like to keep it together, I’ve been known to shed a tear or two at other people’s weddings. Like here, when Abby and her mother were sharing a sweet conversation about how luck they are and how amazing Chris is.
Abby and Chris had a warming of the rings during their ceremony, which is a tradition I really enjoy. It is super sweet and provides me with lots of adorable photo ops of family and friends wishing the couple well as they pass the rings around. We did not head down to the lake for photos since Abby and Chris really wanted to join in on the cocktail hour fun and spend their time with all of the family and friends, but we did make sure to get plenty of portraits in close to the barn, and it was super important to Abby that we take some photos by this fantastic moss-covered tree so we definitely made that happen – even without the umbrella and boots ;)Abby’s adorable nephew rang the bell to let us all know it was time to head in for dinner and more fun! After the formal dances it didn’t take long for everyone to get out there and tear it up – such a fun crew!Thank you so much to Abby and Chris and their families for being so kind and providing so much entertainment – I mean, photo ops for me!
